CANON POINT: post battle, but pre epilogue AGE: 18 SPECIES: Wizard PB: Daniel Radcliffe CURRENT GAME(S): ![]() PERSONALITY: Harry’s first confrontation and ultimate victory over Voldemort as a baby and the eleven years that followed has not been easy or privileged as many people thought. He grew up in a house being neglected and feeling unloved by relatives who hated what he was, even though he knew nothing of the wizarding world. Harry is stunned to learn that he is a wizard and that a magical world exists outside of Surrey. When he reaches Hogwarts, he believes that his world will be better. Harry experiences moments of pure joy at Hogwarts, honestly feeling that the boy who lived found his place in the world. He formed relationships with the Grangers and Weasley's that proved to him that the power of love does exist, a boy that should have been scared and tainted by the horrors of his youth instead turned the horrific experiences into something positive and genuine. On the other side of the coin, Harry is an angry young man, tired of being manipulated, frustrated that the world keeps taking away the people that he loves, most notably his parents and Sirius Black. The impact of all that loss has had on him, is that he has developed somewhat of a massive hero complex. Given his life experiences before Hogwarts, Harry never wants bad things to happen to his important people. His greatest weakness is probably his hero complex. Harry grew up without the ability to trust or rely on the people that were supposed to care for him, he, therefore, believes that he is the only one that can stop bad things from happening. It is the driving belief of Harry’s life and a constant theme throughout the books and the films. It is the reason why Harry makes his choices. He goes after the Sorcerer’s Stone without backup. Harry goes to the Department of Mysteries based on a vision, and he also hides the fact that Umbridge was hurting him and most especially leaving Hogwarts to find and defeat Voldemort, facing his death on his own because he believes that he is meant to do everything on his own. It is important to note, however, that Harry is capable of accepting help when needed. He allows Ron and Hermione to help him, but he refuses to allow Remus to help. This behavior is both a strength and weakness. He has put himself in a position to be there to defend his friends and family if needed, always going to try and stop bad things from happening. Harry is always going to be in a position to make the world a better and safer place for light people. The flip side, however, Harry is easily manipulated as seen by the incident at the Department of Mysteries, diving headlong into a battle that he had no business being in, which ultimately led to the death of his Godfather. Harry has an incredible capacity for love. "A power that He Who Must Not be Named knows not," is the line of the prophecy that Harry hears at the end of his fifth year after the catastrophe at the Department of Mysteries. That power is his ability to love, something that Voldemort lacks. Despite all the gloom and doom that surrounds Harry on a daily basis, he does manage to bring some levity into his life and in the lives of those around him. He has a wry sense of humor, that borders on dry, and honestly, he often displays an "I don't give a fuck" attitude. He knows what he has to do and focuses on that, but that doesn't stop his sarcastic sense of humor. Sarcasm laces many of his confrontations with Umbridge. Harry does realize that in addition to the bad, he needs to balance it out with things that make him happy. He loves to play Quidditch, takes comfort in the security of his friends, he loves Ron, Hermione, and his other friends more than he could ever express. This fact is what sets him apart from the Darkness. Harry understands the need for balance. Harry displays a profound ability to empathize with the downtrodden, or less fortunate. Harry by no means feels what everyone is feeling mind you. Once he has decided that you aren't worth his empathy he can be pretty stubborn about it. When it comes to overlooked people, Harry goes out of his way to relate to them and be kind. He most notably does this with Dobby the house elf, who he befriends even though he tried to have him expelled from Hogwarts. Harry also does this with Luna, who doesn't have many friends and responds well to Harry's kindness. The two most noticeable exceptions to his stubbornness are Kretcher, who he befriends at Hermione's urging, the connection turns out to be important later on and Draco Malfoy, who had offered his friendship the first year, but Harry had rejected because Malfoy had insulted Ron. Harry watched Draco throughout the years, and even though he had no reason to, Malfoy saved him when they were captured at Malfoy Manor when he should have turned him in. Harry couldn't in all good conscience leave Draco to die in the Room of Requirement. Some would say that Draco owes Harry a life debt, but Harry just calls it even. Harry develops deep connections throughout the years at Hogwarts and after. He has his best friend, Ron, while Harry continues to forgive Ron for being a git and a fair-weather friend, it is Hermione Granger who had stood by him through everything when everyone else doubted him, or he doubted himself, she was there. She was his rock, more important to him than a best friend or even a sister. The pair of them understood each other. He has platonic feelings for both Luna and Neville, and he fell in love with Ron's sister Ginny, but there was no time to delve into that at all with the war going on around them at every turn. He is also coming into the game from post-battle, but pre -epilog so the opportunity to develop new relationships will be there since his future with Ginny has not happened to him yet. Harry does tend to fixate on one thing and will not let it go for anything. The notable case is his relationship with Severus Snape. He firmly believed throughout the books and films that Snape was the epitome of everything that Harry hated. The fact that Snape killed Dumbledore on orders, something that he doesn't understand until the end of the war, was the straw that broke the camel's back as far as Harry was concerned. It was when Harry had viewed Snape's memories after his death, that he fully understood and appreciated Snape. Draco Malfoy, by saving Harry's life, only confused him further. Up until that point, he was confident that the young man was the devil incarnate, but Malfoy is saving his life and then feeling the need to protect Draco, later on, will serve to confuse Harry as he works through his feelings for Draco. Harry has been through many horrors in his life, and those experiences make Harry into the man that he is today. He is a man with an incredible capacity to love but is also given him moments of brooding, loneliness, and anger. In the end, love and good will always win out but goes to prove that Harry Potter is a complex character. HISTORY: here |
